SPUD.ca is looking for a Technical Support Specialist, reporting to the Director of IT. You will provide operational and technical support of SPUD computers and systems along with purchasing and maintaining computer and periphery inventory. Additionally, you will provide network and administrative support where necessary.

What you’ll do

  • Provide great technical support and assistance to SPUD employees for hardware, software, and basic networking issues. 
  • Configuration and deployment of computers, lap tops and peripherals 
  • Provide basic training to users as needed
  • Maintain client based software and hardware to minimize down time. 
  • Install, modify, and repair computer hardware and software. 
  • Resolve technical problems with Local Area Networks (LAN), and other systems. 
  • Follow up with end users to ensure issues have been resolved in a timely manner. 
  • Manage and track all hardware and software related assets
  • Maintain inventory of computers and peripherals
  • Negotiate with outside vendors and submits purchase orders
  • Provide support and resolve problems related to computer software for Windows, Office, Google Mail, and other personal and business software
  • Manage and configure user email accounts, Distribution and Security groups, as well as Network File Share permissions

  • Solid analytical, mathematical and problem solving skills
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work across departments in a matrix organization
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends and evenings as required


What you must have

  • A diploma or degree in Information Technology
  • 1 or more years of hands-on networking/desktop/PC administration and hardware/software support
  • Experience in LAN/WAN setup and configuration
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP, SMTP, DHCP, VPN, HTTP, Domain Controller, Active Directory 2003, 2008
  • Knowledge of personal desktop computing and advanced office automation technology including Microsoft Windows, Office, Google Mail Server, file shares, printers, scanners, and peripheral equipment
  • Some experience with VMware and VM optimization
  • Familiarity with mySQL
