    Blush Lane Organic Market, operated by SPUD.CA, is looking for a permanent, full-time Produce Merchandising Lead for our Calgary, AB head office (#220 611 Meredith Road NE). This position is Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    The Produce Merchandising Lead is the quality champion for our customers. They ensure that our produce displays are always beautiful, that we are carrying a wide and appropriate product selection, and that processer are in place to manage our produce inventory. This team-based position works directly with the Produce Director on ensuring the highest level of produce merchandising is being implemented at all stores.

     

    • Work with produce managers to ensure displays are always full, a wide product selection is available, pricing and signage are correct.
    • Oversee and assist in training of the receiving, stocking, prepping and bagging processes as needed.
    • Implement a standard process to inspect all incoming produce shipments and request claims on any inferior quality items.
    • This position may involve placing produce orders from select farms to be distributed to the various retail stores as well as SPUD.
    • Put together and record produce transfers to SPUD’s other locations/entities.
    • Create merchandising competitions to ensure the store level staff is engaged in a fun and supportive environment.
    • Create and implement merchandising references, processes and standard operating procedures.
    • Seek out new suppliers to ensure SPUD’s local and organic selection is consistently improving.
    • Perform store inspections to ensure standards are being upheld.
    • Ensure that produce managers are using the company’s Produce Master List for daily ordering to the extent possible.
    • Additional duties as assigned.

    Qualifications & Requirements

    • Experience working with produce. 
    • Minimum of 3 years experience of merchandising produce at a retail level.
    • Purchasing experience is an asset.
    • Knowledge of implementation of standard operating procedures
    • Minimum of a high-school education. Post-secondary education (or similar work experience) an asset.
    • Proven ability and desire to problem-solve and think creatively to complete assigned tasks and improve processes.
    • Attention to detail.
    • Experience working in a team environment and supervising others.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • History of working with food, either in a service, retail, or production role, and strong understanding of food safety and quality control processes.
    • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office. Experience with inventory management systems is an asset.
