SPUD.CA is looking for a full-time, temporary Operations Manager for our Calgary, AB warehouse (#3 3200 14th Ave NE). This is a maternity leave coverage contract between 12-18 months (exact timeframe TBD).

Duties & Responsibilities

The Operations Manager oversees the daily operations of the warehouse. They are responsible for planning the activities of the team, coaching for performance, providing support and assistance, and developing future leaders.

 

Reporting to the Senior Operations Manager, and responsible for overseeing other departmental leaders (Outbound, ICQA, RLS, Inbound and Produce), the Operations Manager is responsible for championing an industry leading customer experience, while minimizing operational costs, creating an engaging work culture, and developing a road plan for ongoing innovation.

 

  • Lead with positivity and empathy, while ensuring that team members respect their peers and the requirements of their positions.
  • Engage and develop your direct team through coaching, support and regular feedback. Work with employment support or temp agencies to ensure labour needs are met and we are retaining team members, while building an inclusive culture.Plan and coordinate all warehouse activities with department leaders.
  • Prepare for and conduct daily team huddles and other communication touchpoints.
  • Monitor and report on warehouse KPIs. Develop concrete plans for ongoing improvement.
  • Manage the warehouse labour budget, with a focus on ongoing cost reduction.
  • Oversee warehouse space utilization, day-to-day facility function, and general supply management, with an eye towards maximizing cost efficiency.
  • Assist with labour relations for a team of over 50 employees, including recruitment, onboarding, disciplinary action, grievance resolution and general employee assistance.
  • Directly oversee a team of RLS Team Members responsible for sanitizing supplies.
  • Support the OH&S committee in promoting a safe work environment.
  • Ensure ongoing maintenance of and adherence to Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Challenge all current practices. Develop and execute plans for continuous improvements in efficiency and customer experience.
  • Represent warehouse interests in cross-functional initiatives.
  • Communicate with vendors and suppliers as needed.
  • Foster strong inter-departmental communication practices and embrace the internal service role of the Operations Team.
  • Assist the Senior Operations Manager in developing & executing overall Operations Team strategy.
  • Seek out and engage in opportunities to further personal leadership development.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in a related discipline is an asset.
  • 3+ years' experience in operations management (warehousing, distribution, inventory control, etc.)
  • Proven ability to problem-solve and think creatively to develop unique and effective solutions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to cultivate an engaging team culture.
  • Desire to actively innovate, change and improve processes on a daily basis.
  • Must have a passion for food, sustainability, supporting local, and community.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions 

  • While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is required to regularly sit, walk, stand; talk and hear; both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to finger, handle, feel, or operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms; and lift up to 50 lbs
  • Moderate noise (warehouse or office with computers, phones, printers, lights and other team members)
  • Must be able to work for extended periods of time, and entire shifts in our walk-in refrigerated coolers if needed

Compensation

  • An annual salary based on experience, paid bi-weekly.
  • 20% discount on all of our products on spud.ca.
  • $250.00 welcome SPUD.ca credit and $250.00 credit after six months (for new employees only, must be actively employed at time of credit administration which occurs monthly)
